DOG Week 17 -Due Thursday May 17th.
Social Studies HW will be given on a weekly basis. Each Friday students
will recieve an assignment which will be due the following Thursday. On
occasion there may be a project or unfinished classwork that needs to be
completed. HW will make up 30% of a student's grade. The other 70% will be
from quizzes, tests, and project work.
Mr. Taylor's expectations for HW are:
1. Complete neatly and in one color - black ink, blue ink, or pencil. Students may
type the answers if they wish.
2. Use your resources to complete the HW. All questions can be answered
from Atlas, Encyclopedia, Dictionary, the Internet, etc.
3. Answer the questions in a complete sentence using part of the question in
your answer.
4. Turn it in on time. Don't wait until the last minute.
All homework may be corrected by writing the correct question and answer of
the questions that were incorrect on a separate sheet of paper. Students
should attach the corrected problems to the original sheet and pass into HW
bin. I will give the student full credit if correct.
Current Events
Students can choose a story that is currently in the news. I have also provided an article for
those who are unable to access the internet or a newspaper. For our first current event it should be
national or international news. Students should use the guide sheet, passed out in class, to share the
who, what, when, where, why, and how of the story. If they are capable of summarizing the article in
paragraph form they may use that format as well.
SIgn up for Tween tribune to give an opinion about an article online. This is an online current events
website for students in that 10-12 age range.
Tween Tribune. This website is a current event website designed for the middle school age group.
No personal information is needed to sign on. No last names are used. I have asked the students to
sign on,give their opinion on an article of their choosing, and then proofread for
grammar, punctuation and a spellcheck. I will post only those comments of students who would like
their comment posted. They simply write the word "post" after there comment.
The students will be assessed on:
1. the clarity of opinion in a minimum of 3-4 sentences
2. 3-4 Facts from the article worked into opinion
3. Opinion has been proofread for punctuation and grammar, and spellchecked
If you have any questions give me a call.
When you sign up on the site it will ask for country, state, school, and you will see each individual
class I have. Please sign into your SS block.
