Classroom Management

Classroom Management

Our classroom management system fits into to our district’s behavior program
called the “Responsible Thinking Process”. The philosophy behind this
program is that all students are responsible for their own actions and must
be taught to respect the right of others. This means they have to learn how
to think of ways to get what they want while, at the same time, respecting
the rights of others in the school. Teachers have a right to teach and
students have a right to learn in a safe environment. None of the students
have the right to disrupt at school, regardless of where they are,
especially if they are preventing other students from learning or are
threatening the safety and rights of others.

We have a very clear system for behavior in our classroom. Located on our
caution chart, each child has a pocket. Inside the pocket are green, yellow,
and red cards.

 - Green= Great Day Everyone begins each day with this card showing!
 - Yellow= Warning The child’s actions have resulted in a warning.
 - Red= Responsible Thinking Classroom The child’s actions have resulted in
a trip to the RTC (Responsible Thinking Classroom). While in the RTC, the
student will develop a plan to assist them in making better choices. The RTC
teacher, Mrs. Lange, will be there to supervise and help the students. The
child is not able to return to the classroom until the plan is complete and
has been discussed with the classroom teacher.

Asking your child “What color was your card on today?” is a good way to
communicate with your child about behavior!
