What time does school start and end?

Students can enter the building at 7:50 am. They are expected to be in the 
classroom at 8:00 am. Any student who enters after 8:00 am will be 
considered tardy. School dismisses at 2:53 PM.

Do I need to come into school with my child in the morning?

No, students should enter the building in the morning with their classmates. 
To help them become more independent, we encourage them to take care of 
their personal needs at their lockers by themselves. By October, most 
of them feel good about being able to do this alone.

How much does lunch cost? Breakfast? Milk?

If you are purchasing a hot lunch; the cost is $2.00 per day. Free and 
Reduced applications will be coming home the first day of school. Please 
send in your child's lunch money in an envelope with your childs name, 
teacher's name, and write LUNCH MONEY on the outside of the enevelope. A 
blank envelope makes it very difficult to know what the money is for and who 
it belongs to. If you have any questions about lunch please feel free to 
contact us or Mrs. Larson. Breakfast is offered each morning to students 
before school starts. The cost is $1.00.
The cost for breakfast is $1.00.
If you pack a cold lunch and would like to purchase milk the cost is 
30 cents. Please pack this money inside your child's lunchbox.

Where do the children line up in the morning when they arrive at school?

Students line up outside the door closest to the main office on the 7th 
street side of the school. This is the same door that K-2 grades lines up at 
in the morning. There is a staff member outside with them 15 minutes prior 
to the bell ringing. Students are let into school when their bell rings.

What special classes will my child recieve in first grade?

First graders go to music and gym twice a week, art, computer lab and 
library once a week.

How often do you (the teacher) check your voicemail and/or email?

We try our best to check our voicemail and email before and after school. We 
will return calls after school.

Is it normal for my child to be extra tired the first few weeks of school?

Yes! Many children are tired as the adjust to an all-day, everyday schedule. 
However after a few weeks they will become more comfortable with their new 
routine. Getting a bedtime routine down and helping your child get 10-12 
hours of slieep will be helpful.

What can I as a parent do to help my child as they begin first grade?

1.Set a nightly routine to include time for homework and 20 minutes of 
reading.
2. Get plenty of rest!! Sleep makes a huge impact on a student's day.
3. Pack healthy snacks for school.
4. Looking in your child's homefolder nighlty and review work and papers.
5. Help your child with his/her homework.
6. Have your child eat a healthy breakfast.

How can I become involved in my child's first grade year?

Field trips
Volunteering (This can happen in a variety of ways)

What do I do if I have concerns or questions about my child?

Please contact us via phone, email, or note to express your question and/or 
concerns. We are always happy to schedule meetings before and/or after 
school with parents to help answers questions and/or concerns.

Can my child send in a birthday treat?

Yes, birthday treats are welcomed. Please contact your child's teacher ahead 
of time to arrange a date and time to bring in your child's treat. Usually, 
birthdays are celebrated during snack time. Cupcakes, cookies, individually 
wrapped treats work well. Cakes are often difficult to serve in such a short 
amount of time.

Can my child pass out birthday invites at school?

No,time does not permitt for birthday invites to be passed out at school. 
This situation also often leads to hurt feelings and upset childre. Thanks 
for understanding this policy.

If I have a note for you how should I get it to you?

If you have notes, lunch money or any other important things that need to 
come to school, please put them in your child's folder. We check these 
daily. Time does not permitt for us to go into backpacks.

Who do I call if my child's plan for after school change?

Please call the office and let them know if after school plans change for 
your child and they will notify us.
