What time does school start and end?
Students can enter the building at 7:45 am. They are expected to
be in the
classroom at 8:00 am. Any student who enters after 8:00 am will
be
considered tardy. School dismisses at 2:58 PM. Half day dismissal
is at 11:22
Do I need to come into school with my child in the morning?
No, students should enter the building in the morning with their
classmates. To help them become more independent, we encourage
them to take care of their personal needs at their lockers by
themselves. By October, most of them feel good about being able
to do this alone.
How much does lunch cost? Breakfast? Milk?
If you are purchasing a hot lunch; the cost is $2.00 per day.
Free and Reduced applications will be coming home the first day
of school. Please send in your child's lunch money in an envelope
with your childs name, teacher's name, and write LUNCH MONEY on
the outside of the enevelope. A blank envelope makes it very
difficult to know what the money is for and who it belongs to. If
you have any questions about lunch please feel free to
contact us or Mrs. Larson. Breakfast is offered each morning to
students before school starts.
The cost for breakfast is $1.25.If you pack a cold lunch and
would like to purchase milk the cost is
30 cents. Please pack this money inside your child's lunchbox.
Elementary School Prices
Student Breakfast - $1.25
Adult Breakfast - $2.25
Student Lunch - $2.00
Adult Lunch - $3.25
Extra Pizza Slice - $1.75
Can my child bring a birthday treat and pass out invitations?
At Central Grade School, we ask that
there are no birthdays treats (cookies, brownies, cupcakes,
balloons,
flowers, etc) sent in. We will be recognizing your child's
birthday in the
classroom in many other ways and each child will receive a pencil
from the
office. We know how important birthdays are to children and we
plan to honor
them on their special day, however we are hoping this new policy
will help
us to encourage good nutrition and help us devote more time to
learning. If
you would like to send in birthday invitations to be passed out
at school,
we ask that you send enough for the entire class. Thanks for
supporting us
on this new policy.
What special classes will my child recieve in first grade?
First graders go to music and gym twice a week, art, and
library once a week.
How often do you (the teacher) check your voicemail and/or email?
I try my best to check my voicemail and email before and after
school. I will return calls after school.
Is it normal for my child to be extra tired the first few weeks of school?
Yes! Many children are tired as the adjust to an all-day,
everyday schedule.
However after a few weeks they will become more comfortable with
their new
routine. Getting a bedtime routine down and helping your child
get 10-12
hours of slieep will be helpful. Often times children are very
emotional
during this transition into first grade. I almost always gets
better by the
end of October.
What can I as a parent do to help my child as they begin first grade?
1.Set a nightly routine to include time for homework and 20
minutes of
reading.
2. Get plenty of rest!! Sleep makes a huge impact on a student's
day.
3. Pack healthy snacks for school.
4. Looking in your child's homefolder nighlty and review work and
papers.
5. Help your child with his/her homework.
6. Have your child eat a healthy breakfast.
6. Read bi-weekly classroom newsletters and school newsletters

If my child misses school due to a vacation, will you give him/her homework?
It is TCAPS policy that "if you cannont arrange your family
vacations during
scheduled breaks, the following are suggestoins to make sure your
student
keeps thinking while away from the classroom's four walls. Staff
is not
required to compile specific assignments in advance due to
vacations" Here
are some suggested ideas of things to do with your child:
Writing: Keep a diary, write a summary of the trip, Write a
"small moment"
story or description of a special event while on the trip.
Reading: Read books about the area visited, Read books byan
author from the
area visited, read any fiction or non-fiction book while
vacationing.
Math: Figure out mileage, keep track of expenses, have some math
games on
hand.
Science: Keep track of the weather, compare flora and fauna,
visit a museum.
Social Studies: Visit a historical landmark, read a local
newspaper, make a
map of the entire trip.
How many report cards will my child recieve this year?
Three: Fall, Winter, and Spring
What is the arrival and dismissal routine?
Arrival: First Graders line up outside the "F" door on the
playground side of the building. Students will line up with the
other students in the class. If a student needs to eat breakfast
they will be let into the building. No students should enter the
door by the parking lot to wait at their lockers. Please DO NOT
drop off your children earlier than 7:45 am as there will be NO
supervison until 7:45 am. If you need to drop off earlier than
7:45 am, you will need to enroll your child in the before school
daycare program.
Dismissal: Teachers will walk the students who ride a bus out to
the buses. Teachers will walk the students who are picked up out
the "F" door to the fence. Any student that is not picked up by
3:00 will be taken to the office to wait for a parent.
Where do I meet my child at the end of the day?
Parents meet their children outside the fence on the playground
side of the school. A teacher will walk the students out the "f"
door to the fence and will dismiss the students when they see a
parent. Parents should not wait outside the classroom door or
outside the office. This will help us ensure the safety of all the
children.
If I have a note for you how should I get it to you?
If you have notes, lunch money or any other important things that
need to
come to school, please put them in your child's folder. We check
these
daily. Time does not permitt for us to go into backpacks.
Who do I call if my child's plan for after school changes?
Please call the office and let them know if after school plans
change for
your child and they will notify us.
Do I need to put a change in my child's dismissal routine in writing everytime
Yes, If your child is going to have a change in their normal
dismissal
routine, I must have the change in writing. We cannot rely on
children
telling us that they are doing something different. We will have
your child
do what their normal routine is unless we recieve written notice
of a
change.
Can my child bring toys to school?
No, it is a school policy that the children not bring toys to
school. Please
don't send them even if they promise to keep them in their
backpacks. They
always find a way out:)
Do I need to send any supplies to school?
No. All school supplies will be provided as. I do ask for
donations, however
you are not obligated. Please visit my wish list if you are
interested.
How often should I check the website?
I try to update it a few times a week. Save it in your favorites
and visit
it as often as you can:)
