ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES
• Homework is assigned regularly but only checked or graded
periodically. These checks are usually unannounced so it is in your best
interest to complete every assignment to the best of your ability. Most
homework assignments are somewhat graded based on effort and whether or not
it is completed. Assignments should be turned into the teacher in the
manner specified. Do not email an assignment that was to be handed-in
unless you have received permission.
• Work that is turned in LATE is NOT encouraged! Late work will be
given a MAXIMUM of 50% of the total points allowed (unless you were absent
on the day it was assigned). The actual number of points awarded is based
on the quality of the work and degree of tardiness.
• Tests and Quizzes. Quizzes may be given on any day and there will
occasionally be unannounced quizzes! Tests will be announced at least three
school days in advance.
• Binders are required and should be organized with tabs. Each unit
should be separated from others and paperwork is to be hole-punched in
chronological order. These may be checked periodically for a homework grade.
• Enrichment activities will be offered periodically. These
assignments are designed to be difficult to challenge those who are able and
willing to attempt them. These assignments may earn extra points toward the
class grade. However, do NOT rely on extra credit to earn the grade you
seek! Put your best effort forth on all assignments!
• Submitted work lacking best effort may be returned to the student
with a grade of “Redo.” A “Redo” may be redone and resubmitted the
following school-day for partial credit (approximately 70%). The teacher
will consider any redo requests made by a student. If one school day has
passed and the student has not resubmitted the “Redo” assignment, he will
earn the original grade.
• Mastery Learning. Occasionally your teacher will offer the class,
or individuals in the class, an opportunity to re-take a quiz or test. It
is your choice to participate in the re-take. Your final score will usually
consist of an average of the two test scores or by some other calculation
that shall be explained to you by your teacher in advance.
• Academic Integrity. It is very important that each student take
pride in his own work and that he creates his own work without plagiarism or
academic dishonesty. If a student is involved in a breach of academic
integrity, he shall earn a zero on the related assignment, his parents will
notified, and he will be referred to the Dean of Students for further
considerations.
