GUIDANCE PHILOSOPHY
Our counseling program at GCMS includes individual counseling, classroom
guidance activities, support groups, consulting with Teachers, Parents and
Staff regarding meeting the developmental needs of students, and many other
activities.
A list of our support groups with a brief description of each include:
• NEWCOMERS: This group is for students who are new to the Garden City
School District.
• DIVORCE RECOVERY: This group is for students who have experienced a
divorce or separation in their family.
• PEER MEDIATION: This group involves peer mediators who conduct the
mediation process. Mediation is a conflict resolution process that provides
student the opportunity to talk effectively to resolve their conflicts.
• RELATIONSHIPS: This group involves adolescents getting along with
their peers.
SALVAGING SISTERHOOD: This group involves teaching girls to
communicate efficiently and effectively with each other.
Students will have an opportunity to sign up for the support groups. Parents
will be asked to sign a permission slip. Additional services are offered to
our students who have high absenteeism and low grades. Students who need to
see a counselor should fill an appointment request form in the office.
