Mrs. Howe is married with 2 sons and a daughter. The Howe family has
lived in Richland for about 14 years and moved here from their hometown of
Eaton Rapids, Michigan. They moved here for Mr. Howe's job, which is with
Prairie Farms as the Director of Ice Cream Operations (yum!). In Eaton
Rapids, Mrs. Howe taught preschool and was a science teacher in an
elementary school in Lansing. This is her 12th year teaching at Gull Lake.
She attended Michigan State University for her teaching degree, but she also
attended the University of Michigan for a degree in Dental Hygiene. She
practiced Dental Hygiene in a private practice for 3 years before changing
her career to teaching.
Mrs. Howe believes that the best way to provide the optimal education
for her students is to provide them with a variety of teaching methods based
on recent research and on tried-and-true methods. She also believes each
student needs to feel safe to take risks, to feel welcome, and to know that
the teacher has high expectations of them. But, probably the highest
determinate of a student’s success is the open communication between school
and home. Mrs. Howe encourages the parents to contact her at home or school
with any questions, concerns, or suggestions that they may have. Parents
need to pay attention to the Daily Agendas that come home for them to sign
each evening. Children feel more successful with their own learning when
they know their parents and teacher are working as a team.
