Hello Kellogg Families!
Life has been good in our classroom. Our lessons are running smoothly
and the children are showing more independence. This week we will begin our
science unit about plants, take Accelerated Reader quizes, develop more
fluency with our math facts and word recognition. We also will begin our
lessons in our Open Court reader. All of the previous lessons have had a
heavy emphasis on decoding skills. We are excited to begin to read longer
stories.
This week I will guide the students in producing neater work. Often
when children rush through their work and sacrifice neatness their error rate
increases. So, if you see suggestions from me please encourage your child to
feel the pride of quality work.
This week I have a crew of parent volunteers who will be helping with
reading fluency drills, basic sight word recognition, passage fluency, and
fluency with quick recall of the addition and subtraction math facts. Many
thanks to the following parent volunteers: Mrs. Michael, Mr. Smith, Mrs.
Keornke, Mrs. Manuszak, Mrs. Frybarger, and Mrs. McKay. This is a strategy I
have developed to give all the students the additional practice they need
through an efficient delivery system.
We have a new addition to our classroom! Melissa Megill, a pre-intern
from WMU will spend every Friday assisting in the classroom. She started last
Friday and we are so excited to have her with us!
Now that the fall weather has turned somewhat ugly at times, please
remember that the children go outside everyday unless it is raining. They
will need their warm winter jackets, hats, mittens, and outdoor boots. Please
label everything!
Dates to remember: October 14th field trip to Charlton Park and October
30th Halloween celebration.
Happy Fall!
