It was so nice to meet with you last week to discuss your child’s progress in
the first grade. I feel so privileged to have such wonderful families to
work with this year! I truly appreciate all the support you are giving you
child at home. If you have any questions or concerns in the future, please
feel free to call me or send an email.
We have many events coming up on us quickly. Please remember, on Dec. 3rd
(the Thursday we return after Thanksgiving Break), we will take our field
trip to the Kalamazoo Nature Center. If you have not sent in your child’s $5
fee, please do so as soon as possible. Remember, most of our field trip will
be OUTSIDE, so please be sure that your child is dressed for the weather.
Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to chaperone our trip!
Chaperones will need to be at the school by 9:00am the morning of 12/3.
We will also have a field trip to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts on Thursday
12/10. There will be no parent chaperones for this field trip due to space
allowed by the KIA. Please read the letter provided by Ms. East for more
information regarding this trip.
In reading we have been learning about and practicing the /sh/, /th/ and /ch/
diagraphs. We learned that when we hear the /ch/ sound after a short vowel
it is spelled ‘tch’ (witch, batch, etc.).
We had fun last week tasting red, green and yellow apples. We then created a
pictograph of our favorites. After we completed the class pictograph, we all
made our own bar graph using the same data. The children really enjoyed this
tasty activity! We will conclude our graphing chapter next week.
I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy this time with
your children!
