HERE ARE THE DIRECTION PAGES YOU'LL GET IN THE WRITERS TOOL BOX WHEN IT COMES HOME WITH YOUR CHILD ON A THURSDAY....You'll see his or her name on the Class Calendar that is sent home each month when it is his or her turn for the Writers Tool Box.

Dear Parents and writers,

I hope you are excited about your opportunity to do a special writing project (of your choice) using our special Writer’s Tool Box.  Writing is a very important component of First Grade. Therefore, two Boxes will be sent home with two students each week for the rest of the year. First grade writers have lots to share and writing is a great way to express it.

You have between today and next Tuesday to create something.  Please return the bag and your piece of writing to school by NEXT WEDNESDAY!  We are excited to see all the different ideas our first graders come up with!  We will keep all publications in a special basket here at school for our whole class to enjoy throughout the year.  All books will be returned the last week of school.

Parents, enjoy this project/experience with your child.  Guide them with their writing, but don’t do it for them.  You’ll be amazed at their creativity and ability!

Happy Writing,

Mrs. Kendrick

Guidelines:

*The materials in this briefcase are for the first grade student  only.  Please make sure that siblings and friends don’t use them.

*Be responsible with the materials.  Put them back neatly and where you found them.  We want every still in the bag for the next writer.

*Don’t wait until Monday or Tuesday to start your writing.  Allow yourself lots of time.  Start no later than Saturday or Sunday.

* You must return the Writer’s Tool Box by Wednesday so there is time to check the contents and send it off with the next writer on Thursday.

*Your child can do the actual writing or dictate to you.  They can write on paper from home and then you can type it out, cut it and glue it on to the paper in the BLANK BOOKS provided.  You can also just put in on your own blank paper and then I'll bind it too. If your child’s writing is neat they can write it on the paper themselves. You can help your child with correct spelling too! All of this is true for covers too.  Do what works best for you and your child!

*If you would like to contribute any supplies please feel free to do so!  We would really appreciate it!
