Happy New Year everyone!
Just a few reminders before we return next week on Monday:
Please have your child read for Reading Club in these remaining days of our Holiday break. Any reading done during the break COUNTS FOR DOUBLE POINTS! If you lost the "special sheet" that was sent home...don't worry. Just use a regular sheet or on any piece of paper, but date it "Holiday break" so we know to double the pages.
Check out our new links to the left. I've add pictures from both our Holiday party and our Nature Center field trip.
Don't forget to practice addition facts during break and turn in the Flashcard contract when we return Monday. Beginning Monday Subtraction flashcards will begin to come home and you should do both addition and subtraction flashcards with your child.
Thanks to Rachelle Bennecke for organizing our Holiday party. The kids had a great time. Thanks to everyone for helping out at the party and staying to watch our performance.
Check out our Calendar link at the left for updates for the months of January and February.
Reminders from the past few months:
WINTER WEATHER WEAR *Write your child's name on EVERYTHING YOU CAN WITH A PERMANANT MARKER. Initials are fine inside gloves or mittens.
*Our class goes out everyday for lunch recess and we go out at 3:00 recess on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. We go out unless the temperature or wind chill is too cold.
*Beginning this week please send boots, snowpants, winter coat, gloves/mittens and a hat with your child EVERYDAY!
*Send TWO PAIRS OF GLOVES OR MITTENS everyday (or at least M, T, F) so that your child won't have to wear WET gloves or mittens for the second recess.
*An extra pair of socks in your child's backpack is a good idea since sometimes the snow sneaks into boots and gets their socks wet...brrr!
*Discuss with your child if they should bring their snowpants home each day or not. They will most likely get wet each day. Decide if your child should hang them in their locker and leave them at school OR bring them home each day so you can put them in the dryer (this is what I did with both of my own children when they were young.)
*Again...write your child's name on EVERYTHING YOU CAN WITH A PERMANANT MARKER. Initials are fine inside gloves or mittens.
*Work with your child so that s/he can zip her/his own coat, and can put on her/his own snowpants and boots. At lunch time there will be one or two adults to help them (All 110+ first graders). At 3:00 I will be there to help them, but it's only me and 21 of them!
A Few Reminders about Reading Club:
*Decodables always come home on Mondays (or the first day of the school week). These are for your child to keep...forever. Even if your child does not have his or her Reading Club Bag at school their DECODABLES will still be sent home in their BEE FOLDER.
*We try on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to send home GOOD FIT BOOKS...but sometimes we just run out of time and don't get to it. GOOD FIT BOOKS are only sent home if your child has his or her bag on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. REMEMBER, if your child brings some GOOD FIT BOOKS home please read them that night or the next night and then RETURN THEM TO SCHOOL.
*Your child can read in one sitting/one week, any book two times and have it count for Reading Club. You can write "2x" by the book and Mrs. Simmons, our reading club mom will know to count it twice. That same book can count later (on another sheet), but not more than twice on one sheet. So your child can read again the next week or later again in the month, etc.
* Reading Club sheets are available to print off from the Richland PTO webpage. Just go to "schools" at the Gull Lake Website, click Richland Elementary and then click "For parents" and then the PTO. There you'll find the forms. You can also just write down books your child reads on any paper as long as it has your child's name, my name and the books and number of pages they've read.
Would like to access your child's lunch account balance any time on line at the school website? Just contact Kris McPherson at kmcpherson@gulllakecs.org and ask her to email you a user ID and password for your child(ren)'s account balance. When you receive your user name and password just go to the Gull Lake website, go to SCHOOL LIFE, then FOOD SERVICE and then to STUDENT BALANCE.
