Accelerated Reader Requirements
November 9 – January 28
1) ZDP (Reading Range): ____________
Independent Reading Level: ___________
AR Goal:_________ points
2) Remember that books with a book level below your lowest level on the ZDP do not count. You should be trying to read books at your Independent Reading Level.
3) You may begin taking tests on Monday, November 9.
4) All AR points are due January 25.
5) You must read one novel from the genre of historical fiction (early American history – Native Americans to late 1800s). This book will count as part of your AR goal points. This is due on December 14. In addition, we will complete a book project in class on this book. We will begin the book project on December 14. You must choose a book from the list below as I want us to tie this into our study of early American history.
6) The percentage correct on the AR Historical Fiction test counts as a reading test grade. The book project for the Historical Fiction also counts as a reading test grade. These test grades, along with Open Court reading tests, make up 50% of the reading grade. You must “pass” the test (earn points) for it to count. AR goals and percentage correct on all AR tests count as a different category in the reading grade worth 15% of the total reading grade. Classwork - Homework count as 20% of the grade and Spelling - Vocabulary count as the other 15%.
7) We will take AR tests on From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler on November 11 and 12. This book also counts toward your AR goal and as a reading test grade.
8) Any remaining AR points may be from a book(s) of your choice EXCEPT books from these series will not count toward your goal this marking period: American Chillers, Michigan Chillers,
Goosebumps, Animorphs, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. You may, of course, read these for your own pleasure.
9) Remember to complete your AR Journal writing before taking an AR test. This is the same as last marking period: one main idea sentence for each chapter.
10) I do have multiple copies of many of the Historical Fiction books. You MAY borrow one from my classroom library. Many others are available from the school or community library.
