About The Teacher

Mr. Foy is a grizzled veteran science teacher. He coaches high school boys' cross country, 7th grade
boys' basketball and high school (distance runners) track with his friend and neighbor Mr. Clark. Mr. Foy
is a graduate of Holt Senior High School(1977)and Michigan State University, twice. He is the father of
two, Adam and Valerie, and the husband of a Michigan Technological University graduate. She is medical
technologist with 20+ years of experience in the clinical setting working with human and animal
specimens. She has worked predominantly in microbiology, but she has worked with cancer patients.
She is currently back in microbiology.

Mr. Foy is a Christian. He enjoys puns and word play, reading science & math related material, doing
crossword puzzles, watching sporting events, listening to music and exercising or simply napping with
Mia the indoor/outdoor cat and/or Jade the calm dog.

Mission For The Class

Holt High School science classrooms are inquiry-based. This means that students help to create and
perform laboratory experiences to build knowledge. The teachers guide students by framing questions
which lead the students development of thinking skills, experimental inquiry, and problem solving
techniques.

The mission of Mr. Foy's classroom is to produce science thinkers and problem solvers while
constructing content knowledge. My goal is to encourage and challenge all students to do the best they
can. Realizing that few students will become chemists and recognizing the need for a well rounded
education, I will attempt to make science pertinent to "everyday" life and personalize the classroom.
