GRADING
Students in my homeroom class will receive grades from me in reading,
language arts, spelling, and social studies. Science is taught by Mrs.
Chojnowski and math is taught by Mrs. Thoms. Grades are determined based on
the student's performance on assignments, quizzes, and tests along with
their effort.
LATE and ABSENT WORK
An assignment is considered late when the student does not have it when it
is due. If the assignment was left at home, in their locker, in the car,
etc., the assignment is late. A late assignment is graded as a zero but the
student may turn the assignment in for 1/2 credit if he/she chooses to. All
students are given an OOPS pass each month for times when they may have
forgotten an assignment. An OOPS pass may be used to allow an extra day to
turn in one assignment. Extra credit will not be accepted late and students
may not use an OOPS pass on extra credit. A student may not re-do an
assignment for a better grade unless I ask a student to make corrections.
This does not happen often. When a student has a late assignment I will
staple a missing assignment notice into the assignment book so parents are
notified immediately. Students with missing assignments are often kept in
from recess to complete the work.
Students have as many days as they were absent to complete work missed while
they were out. For example, if a student was out for two days that student
has two days upon returning to complete work missed. Any work not completed
with in that time will be considered late.
If a student is going to be out for an extended period of time, please let
me know at least a few days in advance and I will do my best to get work
ready. Parents may also call the office and I will send work down to the
office to be picked up. Again, please give me some advanced time to get the
work together.
ASSIGNMENT BOOKS
Each student has been given an assignment book as part of their supplies. I
expect the students to fill these out daily with the same information I put
on the assignment board throughout the day. Any assignment written in the
assignment book is homework. Students are given time throughout the day to
work on assignments and homework is often work that has not been completed
in class. I ask that parents sign the assignment book every day.
