This is my 14th year teaching 4th grade at Brown Elementary. It's hard to
believe that I've been teaching this longer than my students are old! My
husband was also a teacher and retired a year ago. Obviously, we take
education very seriously in our household! I have two daughters and two
sons-in-law. Our eldest daughter graduated from UM-Dearborn and was married
three years ago. Our youngest daughter received her masters from Chicago's
Loyola University in May and got married in June - nine days after school got
out.
It is somewhat ironic that while my college courses concentrated on math and
science, I have been the social studies teacher for 4th grade since I came to
Brown. Basically, I fell in love with teaching Michigan history, which we
will spend much of the year learning! I will also be teaching math, reading,
and spelling this year.
I enjoy playing tennis, swimming, and quilting. I am currently taking my
fourth block-of-the-month quilt class. Three years ago the class was for a
quilt about Michigan history. What a way to combine two of my favorite
interests!
I am certainly looking forward to this year! We will have a great year.
All students can have success in 4th grade. Success may come easier for
some students than for others, and it may come in different ways. For some,
it will be in the traditional way, with high grades and Honor Roll
appearances. For others, success may be in raising a low reading level ...
finding acceptable compromises in social situations ... composing a well-
written story ... etc. Each student is unique and important, and has
something to add to our class.
