Procedures HandbookThe procedure handbook is a book of procedures that help make my classroom run smoothly. A copy of the handbook will be kept in the classroom for students to refer to as needed.
*A copy of this handbook will NOT be sent home. Mrs. Naasko’s Classroom Procedures
Arriving to School
1. Greet Mrs. Naasko2. Hang up your backpack/coat and if you have a cold lunch, put your lunch in your locker. 3. Turn in your Home/School folder to the basket. 4. Put your book bag into your book box. 5. Go to breakfast if allowed. Remember your breakfast card. 6. Fill your water bottle. 7. Begin morning work. Pencil Sharpening
1. Sharpened pencils will be in each groups supply caddy at the start of the day.2. If your lead breaks during the day and you do not have another sharp pencil, you may borrow one from the cup. First, you must put a broken pencil into the ”I’m Broke” container. Second, you may take a sharpened pencil from the “I’m Sharp” container. 3. You may NOT sharpen using the electric sharpener at any time unless Mrs. Naasko has given you permission. Morning Work Routine
1. This is quiet time.2. Read the board to see the morning work for the day. 3. When your morning work is finished please turn it into the basket. Remember to highlight your name. 4. If you finish early, READ. 5. If your morning work is not finished when the morning meeting music begins, put it into your home/school folder to complete at home. 6. When you hear the morning meeting music you must clean up and come immediately to the circle. Morning Meeting
1. Each day, when the music begins we will all clean up our welcome work and move to our meeting area to begin Morning Meeting.2. Morning Meeting is an important way for us to learn and have fun together. In order to make this possible, you MUST follow the rules for Morning Meeting. 3. We say good morning to each other and participate in an activity. 4. We have a positive attitude. 5. We listen to each other. This means we do not talk when our friends are talking. We do not talk when Mrs. Naasko is talking. 6. Everyone participates! This means listening, participating in activities, and responding to questions. 7. We are all friends. We’ll try to sit by a different friend each day. 8. When Morning Meeting is over, you are responsible for listening to Mrs. Naasko’s directions for the next part of our schedule. Bathroom/Drinks
1. You are free to use the bathroom or get a drink as long as Mrs. Naasko is not giving direct instruction. This means, during a lesson you need to wait until Mrs. Naasko is done giving directions or talking to leave your spot.3. When you are done, wash and dry your hands. Use pace, place, voice to get immediately back to work. 4. As long as there is no one getting a drink at the same time as you would like one, you may walk up and get a drink. “1, 2, 3, No more for me.” You can bring a water bottle to school to keep at your desk. 5. If at any time Mrs. Naasko thinks you are abusing your bathroom and drinking fountain privileges you will lose them. Moving Around the Classroom
Pace: Walk slowly and carefully.Pace, Place, Voice Place: Think about where you are going and the best way to get there. Voice: Refer to the voice chart in front of the room to check what your voice level should be. Asking Questions
1. Raise your hand, quietly. When we callout, no one can hear what anyone else is saying!2. If I see your hand, I know you have a question and I will give you time to ask. You do not need to wave your hand in the air or make noises. This is distracting to me and to other students. 3. Mrs. Naasko will let you know when it is a calling out time and when it is a raise your hand time. Please listen to find out what “time” it is! Respectful Listening
1. We all want to be respected and heard. This is why when another student is talking tothe class during a lesson, we all will look at this student and listen to them. Everyone has such great ideas and it is important that we hear everyone! 2. We keep our hands out of our desks when others are talking. We do not talk to our neighbors when others are talking. We are a community of students who know how to make responsible and respectful choices that we can be proud of! Leaving the Classroom
1. When it is time to leave the room, Mrs. Naasko will call you by group to line up. Please do not line up until you are asked to do so. This is true even of the line leader. Problems lining up will result in us having to line up in alphabetical order.2. The Celebrity Student will be the leader. I will call each group when it is their turn to line up. 3. Please push in your chair before lining up. 4. We wait in line quietly with our hands to ourselves, facing forward. Mrs. Naasko will start our hallway poem and when everyone is ready to walk in the halls, we will leave the room. 5. You may NOT leave the room at any time without Mrs. Naasko’s permission. Entering the Classroom
1. You will enter our classroom quietly using pace, place, voice. 2. Please come in and go to your seat. Mrs. Naasko will give you instructions when everyone is seated. *Entering after lunch: We will enter the classroom, get drinks, put our book boxes on our desk and go immediately to the carpet for our first reading mini-lesson. There is to be NO talking during this time. Hallway Behavior
1. Other students are learning and we do not have the right to take that away from them. We walk down the hall quietly. We are responsible students who respect the rights of students who are learning. 2. We walk on the right hand side of the hallway and stay in a line, one student behind the other. 3. There is always a line leader and a caboose. The line leader will always walk first and the caboose will always walk last. 4. Being respectful in line means: keep your hands to yourself (this means no touching other students’ work in the hallway!), walk, and stay behind the person in front of you. We are all going to the same place, so there is no need to push and rush! 5. Failure to walk appropriately in the halls means we will line up in alphabetical order. Turning Papers In
1. Completed assignments will go in the black basket on the table by the door.2. Do NOT bring your paper to me! They must be put in the basket. 3. You must put your name on all papers. This way, I know which good work is yours. 4. Before you turn in your paper to the basket, use a highlighter and highlight your name. Home/School Folders
1. You have been given a purple home/school folder to use this year.2. You must bring it to school EVERY day and take it home EVERY night. 3. Please take all your papers out EVERY night and put your folder immediately back into your backpack. 4. The pockets in your folder are labeled; Keep at Home, Return to School. Make sure that your papers go in the appropriate spot. Packing up
1. You may not pack up until Mrs. Naasko has talked about the days homework and given you permission.2. Put your Home/School folder on your desk and stack your chair in the appropriate spot. 3. Walk quietly into the hall to get your backpack, coat, etc... Don’t forget your lunch box. 4. Place your Home/School folder inside your backpack. 5. Put your backpack on your desk and stand behind YOUR desk. 6. Wait quietly while others pack up. This will help pack up time go quickly so we can line up to go home. Exiting at the End of the Day
1. Mrs. Naasko will ask you to put your backpack on. Do NOT put on your coat/backpack until you are asked to do so. Mrs. Naasko knows how to tell time and she will not make you late for a bus or a parent pick-up! Don’t worry!2. Listen for Mrs. Naasko to tell you to line up at the door. 3. When the bell rings, please stay in line and walk quietly out the door. 4. You must stay in line, directly behind the person in front of you. Only whisper voices may be used in the hallway at the end of the day. 5. Mrs. Naasko will walk you to your bus. Please give Mrs. Naasko a hug or high five before getting on your bus. 6. You MUST give Mrs. Naasko a hug or high five before leaving with a parent. Do NOT leave with your parent without Mrs. Naasko knowing. Desks
1. Inside your desk you will keep your home/school folder, white board, science journal and math folder with math journal.2. You are NOT allowed to keep pencils, crayons, scissors, etc... in your desk. 3. There are times when Mrs. Naasko will ask you to put papers into your desk instead of the turn in basket. It is your responsibility to listen to directions and put your work in the correct folder in your desk. Bringing Toys to School
1. You may only bring toys to school when you are Celebrity Student.2. Your Celebrity Student toys cannot leave our classroom, except to go home. This means they can’t go to recess, lunch, or specials. You may not keep them in or on your desk. You must put them on the math cart beneath the Celebrity Student display. 3. We will not be playing with the toys. They are for display only. 4. At the end of the week you will bring your Celebrity Student items home. 5. Mrs. Naasko will take your toys if these procedures are not followed. Book Boxes
1. You have been given a book box to store the books that you are reading during Reading Workshop.2. You may NOT store books from our class library or school library in your desk; put them in your book boxe. This will help them stay in good condition. 4. Put your book box in its correct spot when we are finished with reading. 5. During the day if you have time to read, please choose a book from your box or the book holder in the meeting area. 6. You will shop for new books every week. Water Bottles
1. You may bring a water bottle to school to keep on your desk. The bottle must have a FLIP TOP. Regular water bottles are not allowed.2. You may only fill your water bottle before beginning morning work and after lunch recess. 3. Your water bottle may only be filled with water. There is NO pop or juice allowed. Acting on Level A or B
The consequences if you are acting on level A or B are as follows:1. You will first be given a warning and then will be asked to identify your level of behavior. 2. Next, Mrs. Naasko will ask you to choose an acceptable behavior or she will choose one for you. 3. If you continue to disrupt learning after stating your inappropriate behavior then you will go to the “take a break” desk to fill out a “Think Sheet” . This sheet will be discussed with Mrs. Naasko at recess time. 4. If your inappropriate behavior continues then the “Think Sheet” will be sent home to be signed and returned. |
