Discussed possible schedule change concerns. What is the specific procedure for pulling students from elective courses for intervention time for cores.

Discuss with Kirk

Bonnie will talk to Kirk

ASAP

Kirk indicated to me that this would be done primarily if a student was failing only, not if they were just missing work, getting a C, etc....make up work will need to be completed on their own time.

Our dept. would like to know if/which classes will be year long if going to a 3x5.

Discuss with Kirk

Bonnie will talk to Kirk

ASAP

Kirk indicated to me that only a section of the math and english courses that need to be an extended time for students would be offered as year long, similar to the plan when we were on the 3x5 before.  This was to help students go at a slower pace.

Discussed NCA visit coming up in May

Mike and Bonnie attended a two day Mich. Marketing Educators conference

Bonnie won $1260 worth of software for MS Office 2010 applications, would like to order additional units to use in all Business Dept. courses, request for General Business textbooks was not approved last year

Bonnie, waiting for administrative approval on the order, vocational funds could be used to fund the purchase,

On order

Waiting to receive it J

Bonnie, Mike, Jamie and Keith have volunteered to sit on scheduling committee with Kris Kirby

Have already e-mailed Kris expressing interest

Bonnie, Mike, Jamie and Keith

Waiting to get started

ASAP

Questions came up regarding continuing to have a required Public Speaking class as it is not part of the Mich. Merit Curriculum.

Consensus of our dept. is that O-EHS no longer needs that course required as many teachers (all in our dept) have a huge presentation/public speaking component in our curriculum. Mike and Bonnie have researched 11 area schools and none have it required but 4 offer it as an elective

All in dept. will share our consensus as needed in staff meetings and at Instructional Council

Eliminate requirement for 2012-2013 school year

Keith has a weebly account, and students are creating web pages

Set up of account is completed, students are working on web pages that are History related

Keith

Ongoing student learning activity

Will continue to use account

Prezzi and Jing are free downloadables that would be great technological assets to any educator,

Keith is using them, will help anyone who would like to learn more

Jamie tried to participate via Skype this morning, but it was blocked, however, she did share:

Jamie is continuing the 21 things 4 students program this year with my 8th grade students. They are using prezi.com to create digital portfolios with reflections for each "thing" we complete. The website for the program is 21things4students.net for anyone who is interested. (The current freshman who were in my class participated in the pilot program last year, and it went very well)

She is also continuing to use Moodle with both my 7th and 8th grade classes. The current sophomores/freshman are familiar with Moodle enough that if someone was interested in using it in their classroom there would not be a big learning curve to get started. If anyone is interested in setting up an online classroom through Moodle they can contact her, and she would be happy to help them get started.

We will ask James Fisher to unblock the site and will try again.

Mike has concerns of students not passing Computer Concepts, mostly special education students who cannot keep up with the medium slow speed that I go. Problems with students failing and having to repeat leads to too large of classes for lab size.

He would like to have a class of just special education students with a team teacher next year and that would be better for both groups of students in the log run- regular ed and special ed.
