What should I do if I am absent?

Come back and write down what you missed from the classroom
planner or another student's planner. You can also use the
homework link on this website! Ask for the papers you missed, if
any. Most of the time the work will be in your lab packet. You
must finish the work by that Friday, or the following Friday if
your absence was at the middle/end of the week. The sooner, the
better!

Why do you want us to write in complete sentences? Isn't this science?

Writing intelligently, in complete sentences, is an important
skill for your life. I am teaching you science AND work/life
skills. If you are having difficulty, meet with your Language
Arts teacher--OR ME!!!--for help with writing sentences!

How will my assignments be graded?

Every assignment in science is not graded. Often students are in
the middle of the learning process. They need to make many
mistakes before they are ready to be assessed on what they have
learned. When students are still in the learning process, grades
will mainly reflect completion and effort. Once they have gained
experience, assignments will be graded on accuracy.

Rubrics/checklists will be provided for assignments that are more
complex than simple lab activities.

Grades are based on total points for the card marking. Student
percentages/grades are determined by dividing the points earned
by the points possible for the card marking.

What is the 100 Facts List?

This list is given to each student during the first couple of
weeks of school. It contains all the facts required to be
successful at learning in 6th grade science. Students should
study/read the facts from their current unit. As the year
progresses, an additional 25 facts are added each card marking.

What is the Weekly 10?

This quiz is given every Friday. 10 facts from the facts list are
randomly selected. Questions are given to the students, who then
write the answers. Students correct their own quiz and chart
their progress each week in their data folder. The scores do not
affect academic grades directly, until the end of the
cardmarking. Students are asked to read through this list 2X-5X
each week. It may be done during extra
time in class--or at home as homework.
