Last year I taught fifth grade at Warner Upper Elementary, and before that I spent fourteen years at Longacre Elementary. I am excited about teaching at Power because my family lives in Farmington and this is my community. Although I spent eight years living in Chicago, I grew up in Farmington Hills and watched the farmland that surrounded my little street transform into miles of suburbs. I have many interesting stories about growing up here that I like to tell students. In the past few years I have been working at writing them down. Community history is an interests of mine, and live in a 111 year old home which I restored over a period of ten years. I married Lisa, a friend from my church that I knew since I was eight years old. We have three kids: Ashland (11), Abigail (9), and Lilah (5) and they have one rat named Cupid, and a little black kitten someone left on our porch named Ninja. We spend a lot of time hanging out with nearby grandparents, serving at church, camping, biking, hiking, and following different activities our kids are involved in.I started working with students in the inner city of Chicago when I was only 19 years old. I like the energy kids bring into a room, their creativity, fun, and finding ways to inspire them to try new things, excel, and grow. Helping kids understand their world through history is important to me, so I am excited about social studies. When I have time, I find myself gardening, reading, helping someone else with a project, writing, or walking downtown to meet a friend for coffee. I read a lot of American history, theology, and classic literature. I enjoy taking old things no one cares about and restoring them. Although my life is always packed with activity, I like it that way and I'm thankful for all the blessings I enjoy.
