Geometry

Hello Geometry Fans,

Geometry is now a freshman class at Roosevelt. Students will move on to Algebra One in the 10th grade, Algebra II in the 11th grade, then Precalculus or Statistics in the 12th grade. These courses are an excellent preparation for college or any trade school.

We have started the logical world of proofs in Geometry. You are probably wondering why you ever had to do proofs, and one reason is to develop logical reasoning skills. Proofs are not a topic that we spend a week on and it will disappear. We will work on these all year long.

Along with proofs, this semester we will be working on the area, perimeter, and volume of many shapes and circles. We will study the properties of similar figures, and introduce some trigonometry concepts. Wow, these are topics applied every day by millions of people in their careers. Just take a look around you. I am sure you will see circles, spheres, rectangles, and triangles all around you. How is geometry used to build a house, road, bridge, or car? Math is all around us!

I would love to hear from you about how you may use these skills in your profession. Please send me a email or call. I always like to present real world examples. Perhaps you can even join us one day in class.

If your son or daughter is having trouble, please have them see me for help. I am available before and after school for extra help; no appointment necessary. My goal is for all my students to succeed. If there is anything further I can do to help a student, please contact me.
