How many books is a student allowed to check out of the library?

1st and 2nd grade students - one book each week.  
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students - one general collection book
and one Accelerated Reader book for a total of two books at a
time. Kindergarteners will check out Library books in January.

What books are each student responsible for putting away?

Each student is responsible for putting only his or her own 
books back on the shelf each week. By reshelving their own
books students are applying the library skills they have
learned.

No.

How often do students select R.I.F. books?

Reading Is Fundamental (R.I.F.) book distributions occur three 
times each school year. R.I.F. is a Federally funded program
that allows each student to select FREE books on scheduled
dates each school year. Please check with the Librarian for
future R.I.F. distribution dates.

What is Accelerated Reader?

Accelerate Reader (AR)is a program designed to encourage 
students to read more. Students are allowed to visit the
library throughout the school day to check-out an "AR" book.
After the book is read the student may take an AR quiz on the
computer, a student must score 80% or more on the quiz to earn
points. Students receive classroom rewards as well as school-
wide rewards as points are earned.

Why are the AR books identified by different colors?

AR books are identified by reading levels using the colors 
white, red, blue, green,and yellow. Each student is assigned
a reading level range to select books from, based on the
student's current reading ability.

Can students read books for AR other then classroom and school library books?

Yes, students may read and take a quiz for any book there is 
an AR quiz for. For a list of quizzes, visit
www.arbookfind.com and search by title, author, or level.
Students may take a quiz on any book they read within his or
her assigned book range. Please check with your child's
classroom teacher for additional information regarding
Accelerated Reader, or click on the AR Parent Guide icon
within the Library website.
