About Mrs. Slack

I was born and raised in Gaylord. Upon graduating from High School I decided
to attend CMU to obtain my degree in Elementary Education. I graduated from
CMU in 1992, and was hired by The Public Schools of Petoskey in August of
that same year. For the first four years of my teaching career I taught 5th
grade in the morning and vocal music in the afternoon. The three years
following that I taught 5th grade. I then moved to the third grade and taught
there for five years. In 2004 I accepted the elementary enrichment
coordinator/teacher position. I absolutely love working with the gifted
population of our elementary schools!

In 1997 I earned my Masters Degree from GVSU, and then in 2003 I earned my
Education Specialist Degree from NMU. I truly believe that an excellent
teacher is one who never stops learning. I am constantly trying new things
and taking more graduate level classes to be the very best teacher that I can
be.

I have been very happily married since 1991 and have two incredible
daughters. They are the joy of my life! My hobbies include baking with my
girls, reading, sewing, running, camping, canning, and gardening.

Desires For My Students

Gifted students have very unique and special needs. I am very passionate
about these students and desire to offer them as many enriching opportunites
as I can. Not only will they be challenged academically, but they will also
be growing socially in our safe and caring classroom. I want my students to
have a passion and drive to be all that they are capable of. So often, I
think that gifted students limit themselves because they are afraid to fail.
I want to provide them with an environment that makes it safe to try new
things and take risks without the fear of failure.

I thank you in advance for sharing your child with me. Each year I work with
over 90 students in PALS and many more in small groups, and I can tell you
that they are all incredible and amazing children!
