Testing Data
So what exactly does all of this test data mean? In Catholic Education we have a history of excellent academics and a ministry of teaching to children and not to tests. Still though standardized testing has become inherantly important over the years and understandably so. We have provided data for you and it is imperative that readers understand what the data infers. There are two kinds of test data below. One is the MEAP (Michigan Educational Assessment Program) also called the MME (Michigan Merit Exam) and the other test is the ITBS (IOWA Test of Basic Skills).
Below are graphsof our 2008-2009 5th & 8th grade religion assessment results. Our kids did great on the exam! Way to go Chargers. This is an education you can have FAITH in!!
The IOWA Test is a norm reference test that measures how well a child does compared to the rest of the United States of America. Below are bell curves representing how our students did. Remember that 50% is located at the top of the curve and is considered average. Average is where most children score in the U.S. With the IOWA test, a 50% means average not failing. Our kids are way above average with their IOWA scores.
MEAP:
a criterion reference test that shows what percentage of students met or exceeded the standards taught. It is a test that references (assesses) a certain criteria (benchmarks). When you see a school with a MEAP score of 88%, that means that 88% of the kids met or exceeded the standards, it does not mean that the students scored an 88% average.
