Mrs. Voto’s memories of St. Pius X Parish go back to the year 1955 when our church was being built. She was part of the first Holy Communion class and attended religious education classes each week sitting in the church pews with her class and their teacher. Little did she realize that someday her childhood dream to be a teacher would be fulfilled in a school that had not even been built and in a subject that was unheard of in elementary schools until many years later.
After receiving a teaching degree from Central Michigan University, Mrs. Voto started her career in a third grade classroom in the Carman Ainsworth School District. In 1984 she began teaching students in our school’s first computer lab two days a week with 18 Commodore PET computers. A few years later she earned a master degree from Eastern Michigan University. From 1989 to 1997 Mrs. Voto split her time teaching computers at Holy Redeemer School and St. Pius. She is now in her 28th year of teaching and loves the family atmosphere of St. Pius X School and Parish. Mrs. Voto’s three children, Rob, Marsha, and Andy graduated from St. Pius X School and three of her grandchildren, Joey, Ben, and Maggie currently attend our school.
Along with computers, Mrs. Voto coordinates a CRIM walking program for students and a yearly State of Michigan Green School certification. At home she loves to sew, read, garden and learn new crafts, but her favorite time of all is anytime she can be with her six grandchildren!
