Trailblazer Fitness was a program started by the Physical Education Program
about 10 years ago, with a grant from Coordinated School Health. The goal of
the Trailblazer Fitness program is to:
Encourage students to be active outside of the school day.
Encourage students to be active with other family members.
Encourage students to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and or vegtables in a
day.
The voluntary program runs the entire school year. Students can pick up a
recording sheet from their physical education teacher. The recording sheets
are worth either 25 or 50 points. One point is awarded for every 20 minutes
of continuous physical exercise or activity outside of the school day.
Points are doubled if they are done with another family member. A student
may record up to 3 hours of activity on a school day or up to 6 hours of
activity on a non school day. One point may be recorded for eating 5
servings of fruits and or vegtables in a day.
One box on the recording sheet is equal to 1 point. Students or parents
should log in the date, the activity and the amount of time spent in the
activity. The log should be signed by a parent.
Small incentive prizes are awarded to the students. A T-shirt is awarded at
300 and a small piece of equipment, such as a playground ball, soccerball,
jump rope etc. is awarded for 500 points.
