Skip for School

Tuesday, September 29th from 3-4pm, students may participate in the fundraiser "Skip for School", to help the funds of our fabulous Education Foundation, which helps support our Eagle Bluff trip each and every year. It also help support programs that are innovative and "different". Students will ask for donations to help them in their efforts to be active and healthy!

Friday Folders

Friday Folders will be sent home eacher Friday, containing your child's graded work and the weekly newsletter. Sometimes fliers come home in them also. Be sure to read the directions posted inside the folder and ALWAYS SIGN and RETURN EACH MONDAY! Thank you!

AR READING-QUARTER 1 BOOK GOALS

Students need to try to meet either their point goal AND/OR their book goal for Quarter 1. They can earn up to 40 tickets for school store if they meet both goals. Also, students will be graded on their two highest AR tests for 1st Quarter. Please make sure they are reading 15 minutes each night. This will help them become better readers and students, achieve more of their goals, and complete their assignments!

Early Release on Wednesday, September 30th

There will be an early release on the 30th due to teacher's inservice. Please make arrangements for your child ahead of time. Thank you!

Spelling

Spelling will probably be a little different for your child this year.  I believe in implementing differentiated spelling-meaning your child’s list will be made according to what is best for them, not the whole class. Each student will take a spelling pretest each week and will only do a final test on those words missed.  If your child struggles with spelling and gets very little right, then he/she will only study the first 10 words OR how ever many wrong they got. If your child only misses three words, then usually I will give him/her 2-4 more challenging words to work on for the week. So each week, your child will have a different amount of words to test on, depending on how hard or easy the list is. It will be a little confusing at first, but they (and you) will catch on quick!  If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach me here at school.

Poetry Academy

We will recite poetry every week as another form of helping us with our oral reading fluency. Students will bring home a new poem each week, and they are expected to rehearse it at least 5 times, attain initials from those who listened to them, and perform them each Friday. They will then self-assess themselves on their progress and performance, as I will too. Hopefully you'll enjoy our poems!

Donations

I am looking for some age appropriate prizes for the school store box. Some examples of things I usually buy for it are:

  • toys/items from $ bin at Target
  • $ store items
  • things your child likes
  • baseball/football cards
  • waterbottles
  • landyards
  • stickers
  • candy (individually wrapped)
  • pop
  • juice
  • art supplies--fancy pens, pencils, crafty things, etc.
  • etc.

VOLUNTEERS

I am looking for some steady volunteers for the school year, for the "to-do" list gets long very fast! I know some people do not have a steady schedule, so if you can only come every-other week, that works too! Please e-mail or call me if you are interested in helping out. I would appreciate any help I can get!
