A message from our School Superintendent regarding inclement weather and
school closings/delays
....

The school district does everything it can to make sure school is on time
and students arrive safely. However, when snow and ice enter the scene, we
need to make decisions that affect our "normal" routine.

I will call Superintendents around the area, talk to the Cannon Falls
Transportation Coordinator, who in turn will contact drivers from all
corners of the district to see what the road conditions are like. I have a
computer in my office that tracks storms and gives warnings periodically.
Finally, I drive the roads myself to determine whether or not conditions are
safe for travel.

In short, we get input from many sources around the area before making a
final decision. All of this happens between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. If need
be, I will request a 2 hour late start and then decide later whether or not
to cancel the entire day. I always sway on the side of safety. I will try my
best to make the two-hour late start decision prior to 5:50 a.m.

This is a difficult decision and we take this very seriously. Once again, we
do this for the safety of the students. Please respect the decision of the
district when we decide to run buses two hours late or if the district
decides to cancel school.

Todd Sesker
Superintendent, Cannon Falls Public Schools

ENERGY SHUTDOWNS

Dear Parents,

The Cannon Falls Area Schools has a money saving cooperative agreement with
our local electric utility provider, Xcel Energy.  During periods of peak
energy consumption, Xcel may ask us to shut down our energy usage (close
the schools).  This notice may be given only hours ahead of time...much like
a snow emergency in the winter.  If that is the case, we will follow our
normal procedures for sending kids home early (like a snow emergency).

Given that we could experience such weather conditions during the next month
or two, we ask that all parents/guardians be aware of this possibility and
listen to our local radio stations.  This information will NOT be carried on
any of the Twin Cities television stations.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Todd Sesker
Superintendent
