See information sheet given in class for what constitutes an insect.
No Spiders!
No Centipedes!
No Scorpions!
Kid doesnt want to kill insects?
Find them dead
A. spider webs in garages/basements
B. window sills
C. car grills*
D. pool filters
* Parked cars work best for this activity!
Killing jar or freezer for killing the insects
Points
15insects x 3 points if they have:
A. Specimen IS an INSECT
B. Order name
C. Common name 45Points
5 points for style, neatness, etc... + 5 Points
Total points 50Points
*No more than 4 from any one order (see sheet)
If two of a kind (2 different butterflies) must label more specifically.
ie Monarch butterfly and swallowtail butterfly. Otherwise butterfly would be
sufficient.
All collections should be mounted in some type of container. Shoe box
preferred!
If falling apart, bugs can be mounted with glue. (in class demonstration)
Thanks for your support and help with this project. It is my hope that we
can use the bugs to help the students understand the word "DIVERSITY" by
realizing there are many different kinds of bugs found in our area.
