At last I have an answer for you.  I found a great website that I think 
answers your question.  The website is the Barahona Center for the Study of 
Books in Spanish for Children and Adolescents:

On this site they list 12,000 high-quality books in Spanish: 
http://csbs.csusm.edu/csbs/www.book.book_home?lang=SP   
You can also look for books by Isabel Schon.  I believe that the most recent 
book she has published is called, Recommended Books in Spanish for Children 
and Young Adults, 2000-2004 available from Scarecrow Press.
