Maud Hart Lovelace Award
For the first time this year, Harambee will take part in choosing the winner
of the Maud Hart Lovelace Award. This is a children’s choice award and its
purpose is to encourage recreational reading among school age children.
Maud Hart Lovelace was born and raised in Mankato at the turn of the century
and was the author of the Betsy and Tacey series of books. Students read at
least 3 books from a list of 12 choices. Our school library has multiple
copies of these titles but they are also available at public libraries and
bookstores. All votes must be turned in by April 1, 2009. Here is the list
of books that students will be reading this year:
Winner
Flush by Carl Hiaasen
2nd Place
Lunch Money by Andrew Clements
3rd Place
Three Good Deeds by Vivian Vande Velde
