How do you celebrate birthdays in D-17?

We will celebrate birthdays in the afternoon. Everything listed is optional.
  Many students choose to
bring a treat to share and pass it out by themselves or with the help of a
classmate or me. It must
be store bought. They may bring a book for our classroom library. They may
bring a cake mix and
frosting for the Birthday Bag Project. They may also bring a gift for a child
their age for the Birthday
Bag Project.

What do we do with Math Homelinks?

Students should complete their Math Home Links as soon as possible when they
are sent home so they do not pile up. When I check them I always allow a 2 day
turn-around
window. Students should be able to do the work fairly independently but with
parent
involvement. If you feel your child has poor understanding of the concepts in
the Home Link,
write me a note on the page and return it to school. I will reteach that
concept. Home Links
should be checked at home and then RETURNED to school. I will not send them
back home after I
look at them. A record of completed homelinks will be kept in the student
math folder. They
can earn a prize ticket that allows them to skip the back of a Home Link of
their choice by having
their work in on a timely basis.

What time is lunch and can I eat with my child?

Our lunch begins at 12:20. Many parents enjoy eating lunch with their
child(ren) at school, although
space is limited. Here are the school guidelines:
1. Parents and child must sit at the 'guest tables' and may not invite other
students to join them.
2. Parents may bring lunch or a treat for their child but not for other students.
3. Parents and siblings may not join that child for recess on the playground.

Is the due date for the reading calendar flexible?

Although turning in the calendar is optional, I usually award only the
students who hand in their completed Reading Calendar by the date due.
Students may speak to me if they have a valid reason for not having the
calendar by the due date and I will consider extensions based on the
information I receive.
Establishing a habit of reading, managing time, and meeting expectations are
life skills that will
serve your child well.

Can I request make-up work for days my child is out ill?

Yes, you can call the classroom or office or e-mail me and leave a message
before 10 a.m. to
request make-up work if your child is out ill. Work can be sent home with a
sibling or neighbor or

Can I request make-up work ahead of time for family vacations or trips?

By district policy, advanced school work will NOT be prepared for students on
vacations or trips.
Thank you for not asking for an exception to the policy. Enjoy your family
time. I will save only the
critical assignment for your child to make-up upon returning to school.
