Dear Fourth Grade Families,
For students participating in the Independent Reading program this year, our
special lunch to honor those who have met their yearly goal will be held on
Friday, June 7th. Remember not to order hot lunch that day. The link to a
sign-up genius will be sent to participating families later this week for
lunch donations. Thank you!
Our last big writing project of the year will be a presidential biography.
Each student will be randomly assigned a president starting with Andrew
Johnson and ending with Barack Obama. While we have many resources available
at school, we will be sharing them among all three fourth grade classes. If
you are planning a trip to the library this week, it would be great if you
could pick up some juvenile non-fiction books on your child's assigned
president.
The annual Longest Poem Celebration will take place the morning of Thursday,
June 6. For the past three years, the School of Grammar has celebrated our
year-long work with memorizing poetry by holding a Long Poem Celebration.
Various students and even staff members recite poems they’ve memorized, often
outside of the poems included in Nova’s curriculum. It’s a wonderful event
attended by many parents as well as the whole School of Grammar. If your
child is interested in reciting a poem, he or she should come talk with me.
Students may not recite poems that were memorized by their class in any
previous year.
-Ms. Marchand
