May 28 - June 1, 2012
Dear 2nd Grade Families,
Please remember that school will be closed on Monday, May 28th for Memorial Day.
I have included a couple of pictures taken on Friday afternoon when the H.S. Spanish students came to read to our classroom.

We will be going on our long-awaited field trip to Oxbow Park on Tuesday, May 29th! (Parents who are chaperoning should report to school at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.) We plan on leaving at 9:15 a.m. and arriving back at school around 2:35. Make sure that your child brings a sack lunch (unless you ordered one from the school cafeteria). I told that boys and girls that it would be wise to bring along an extra bottle of water because after hiking the trails they will be thirsty. Your child should wear close-toed shoes such as tennis shoes.....NO SANDALS. Be sure to check the weather report to see what type of clothing will be appropriate for the weather.
Our talent show will be on Wednesday, May 30th. Children who have chosen to be in the talent show and need props from home should remember to bring them to school on Wednesday. If the weather holds out we will also walk down to the city park on that day. Boys and girls are welcome to bring in a ball (kickball, football, soccer ball, etc.) with them to school that day.
The class was able to learn about the reading program being held at Van Horn Public library this summer. Your child brought home information in regard to this on Friday, May 25th. Please be sure to check his or her backpack for information on this program. It is a wonderful way to keep your child reading over the summer months! I would also encourage you to review the basic facts with your child over the summer. That way they will be ready to hit the ground running in 3rd grade.
Report cards will be sent home with the children on Friday, June 1st. The envelope will also contain information regarding your child's end of the year math and reading assessments. If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call on Monday, June 4th.
I have thoroughly enjoyed spending the school year with this group of children, and it has been my privilege getting to know all of you! Each one of them is special!
Parents, I thank you for your support throughout the year and I hope you and the kiddos will stop in and say "Hi" sometime next year!
