How do I send money and forms to school?
Forms can be turned in as is, with students putting them in the Office
envelope in their homeroom. Any money (check or cash) turned in MUST be
enclosed in an envelope, with the student's name, homeroom, and what the money
is for, on the outside of the envelope. This is also placed in the office
envelope in the student's homeroom. Please be aware of deadlines!
How do I let the school know my student needs to miss class?
You can call the school's attendance hotline and provide this information to
the office, who will then add that information to the daily attendance form.
You can also send a note to the student's homeroom teacher with the
information, and this will go to the office.
What can I do about homework if my student needs to stay home sick.
You can call the school office by noon on the day of the absence. The office
can then notify the student's homeroom teacher to have the day's work ready to
be picked up in the office at the end of the day, or ready to be picked up by,
or sent to, a sibling (please provide who and where that sibling is). This is
especially important if a student misses more than one day for an absence. If
this call is not in by noon, it is not possible for the JH teachers to get the
message.
What can I do about homework if my student knows he is going to miss school?
We expect that a student lets his teachers know when he is going to be gone.
The student is expected to turn in work ahead of time, or take tests and
quizzes ahead of time, if there is a single day missed. For longer absences,
the student needs to let teachers know, but work will not be given or assigned
ahead of time (according to the Parent/Student Handbook). We don't like to
have students taking books on trips, and quite often the planned ahead work
doesn't actually happen as it was given. The student may do work that wasn't
actually done with the class, or may even do work that the rest of the class
hasn't gotten to. It works out better to get the actual work when the student
returns from the absence.
How long does a student have to make up work after an absence?
A student has as many days as he/she was absent, before work would be
considered late.
What happens to the grade when a student turns work in late or incomplete?
In the JH, work that is turned in one day late has 50% deducted from the
possible score. Work that is turned in 2 or more days late receives 0% for the
grade. Homework is meant to prepare students for the next class. When it is
done after that class, it loses a great deal of its value to the student.
When are late slips sent home?
In the JH, late slips will begin, for most teachers, when a student has
reached the 3rd late assignment. These are then sent home, and require a
parent signature be returned to the teacher.
How can I check my student's grades on line?
On teacher web pages for math, science, English, religion, history,
literature, and Spanish, you will find a heading that allows you to check
grades. When you click on that page heading, you will see a blank that asks
for the student's last name and a password. The password needed is an 8 digit
(number and letter combination)that your student has been given at school by
his homeroom teacher. You can ask your student for this password, and you can
call or e-mail any JH teacher for that password. The same password is used for
each subject. Please be very private with the password information to avoid
other people's access to your student's grades.
What happens if I'm tardy?
Any student who is tardy (enters his homeroom after 8:42), must go to the
office to get an admit slip. When a student has been tardy 3 times within one
trimester, he/she will receive a detention. Another 3 would receive a second
detention and so on. The count does start over with a new trimester.
Can I chew gum or have candy in class?
Any JH student caught chewing gum or candy in school, during the school day,
will have a yellow slip filled out and given to the homeroom teacher. The
student will receive a detention upon receiving a 3rd yellow slip for that
action. These counts do not start over. Every third gum infraction will result
in a detention for the entire school year.
What is being "out-of-uniform" mean?
Students who consistently have problems with shirttails not tucked in, no
belt, skirt too short, hems not repaired, etc. will receive a notice to
parents of the problem asking help from home to remedy the problem. Yellow
slips are no longer given for uniform problems.
What can I wear on school-wide out-of-uniform days?
As described in the Parent/Student Handbook, students are expected to wear
modest, neat clothing on out-of-uniform days. Clothing with holes, tears, and
patches are not allowed (even if it is considered "in style".
Clothing with inappropriate pictures, logos, language, representations of violence and
sexual content are not allowed.
Baggy, low hanging pants are not acceptable.
Girls are not to wear clothing that shows any cleavage, bare shoulders, or
midriff. Skirt length should be no shorter than uniform skirts. Spaghetti
straps and sleeveless tops are not allowed at any time.
Please check out the outfit before coming to school. It saves lots of
embarrassment, and parents having to bring clothing for the day to change into.
