What if my child is absent from class?

Your child's attendance is very imporant. Students miss valuable
instruction and interaction when they are absent. When you child
is absent due to illness or an emergency, please call the office
the day of the absence AND send a note the day the student
returns explaining the reason for their abscence. Make-up work
will be given to the student the day they return, and they will
be given one day for each day absent to turn in their assignments.

What is the policy on homework?

Your child will receive a weekly homework assignment. These
activities will be brief practice with math and spelling, in
addition to daily reading. This will be sent home in packet form
every Monday and will be expected to be completed and turned in
by Friday. There will be activities listed for each day along
with a student log to record daily thoughts. YOU WILL NEED TO
SIGN THE PACKET EACH WEEK.

Students are usually given adequate time to complete assignments
in class. However, students who are absent or who do not make
good use of their time may need to complete some assignments at
home. These assignments are expected to be turned in the next day
under most circumstances.

How will I know what my child's homework is?

Your child will receive a weekly homework assignment. These
activities will be brief practice with math and spelling in
addition to daily reading. This will be given to students on
Monday and will be expected to be completed and turned in by
Friday. Students will use their morning work time to complete it,
but if they need extra time they are welcome to take it home with
them. If it is not turned in on Friday, I will expect it on
Monday. In order to help your child keep track of assignments,
they will record their work in their agenda and highlight
assignments that still need to be completed. It will be brought
home every night, and returned the next day with your signature.

What are some other items that are prohibited in the classroom?

Any items that are not on the supply list or needed for use in
school will not be allowed in class. Some examples would be:
electronics, sports equipment, toys, trading cards, etc. We do
not have room to store these items, and they may get lost or
damaged. In addition, they tend to cause disruption in the
classroom. Our coat hooks are located in the hall, so only items
necessary for the school day should be in their book bags.
