Curriculum Corner

 For the week of 5-7. . . .

Reading:  Our phonics focus over the next few weeks will be the 'r' controlled vowels.  This week we will learn the 'er' chunk.  We will have Guided Reading groups early in the week and then I will begin my final reading evaluation by listening to each child read on their own.

Math:   Topic 12 has several review lessons to start us off.  We will also spend a very short amount of time counting money up to 99 cents.  We will end the topic next week with adding and subtracting multiples of ten.  We will continue with subtraction facts this week in our practice, with -9.  As in the past the students will have 18 problems to do in 5 minutes.

Writing:  This week we will finish our 'special' project and get all of our writing ready for reading to you on Friday.

Spelling:  Spelling words introduced this week are:  her, term, fern, ever, under, after.  We will practice these words throughout the week with a test of Friday.

Vocabulary:  Vocabulary instruction is meant to increase and expand a child's vocabulary.  We will teach vocabulary instruction through themes and learn 3 words each week.  Our theme this week is Animal Habitats.  Our vocabulary words are: habitat, structure, design.  By the end of the week the children should be able to explain the vocabulary words but NOT spell them.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
