How can I help my child study if I don't know French?

You can help your child by drilling him/her over the vocabulary.
It will always be highlighted in a yellow box in the textbook.
You say the English and have your child tell you the word in
French. Don't let him/her see the book. You will be able to see
if he/she is correct. You won't know if it is pronounced
correctly, but that's OK. If you want, there are several online
dictionaries with audio where you can check pronunciation.

How can I improve on memorizing vocabulary?

Create memory clues for each word. For example: Jacket is
Blouson. You need a jacket when the wind BLOWS ON you. Once the
clues are created, practice a lot! Another method is flash
cards. Put a picture on one side of a note card and the French
word on the other side. If you can't make a picture, you could
put the English word instead. Then practice a lot. Practice
every day, even if you don't have an assignment.

How can I improve on spelling in French?

Make a list of your words in English. Then close the book and
try to write the words in French. Open the book and check your
spelling. Try again with the ones you missed. Keep going back
and forth until you have spelled them all correctly.

How often and over what will we test?

You should expect a test every 4th class period over 1/2 of the current chapter. We will follow this sequence as closely as possible:

Day 1 Focus on new vocabulary
Day 2 Focus on a new grammar concept
Day 3 Practice those words and concepts
Day 4 Test

Of course, sometimes we will take more days before a test for projects or more difficult concepts.
