for the day(s) missed. Students must schedule walking with their teacher
ahead of time. After returning from an absence, a student will be given one
day per day of absence to complete the worksheet/packet or walking. Written
assignments must be turned in at the beginning of the hour. This is the

or walk, he/she will receive a zero for the day(s) absent. If you know you
are going to be absent, you may complete the assignment ahead of time.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Subject Rationale:
HEALTH/PHYSICAL EDUCATION Rationale:
The Physical Education Department recognizes the need for every student to
apply the principles of health and fitness in personal lifestyles. All
students are prepared to appreciate the relationship between the mind and the
body through activities that develop cardio respiratory functioning, joint
flexibility, muscular strength and endurance; in order to maintain life-long
wellness. Coupled with concepts of teamwork and cooperation, the mission for
each student to experience success is accomplished.
Grade Text:
JUNIOR HIGH PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH:
This class promotes the health and general welfare of all students enrolled
and helps each student to become a more productive individual physically,
mentally and socially. Throughout each of the activities and skills taught in
class, the student must attempt to achieve an average degree of proficiency.
Good sportsmanship and teamwork will be demonstrated at all times. Each
student will understand the importance of physical fitness and aerobic
training, and through this, will develop a level of well being. The topics
learned in the health portion will provide the student with the information
and knowledge necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Junior High students are required to take one year of Physical
Education/Health. They may fulfill this requirement during 7th or 8th grade
year or with two summer sessions. Because students could enroll for two
years, the curriculum will provide different activities or topics on
alternating years to avoid repetition for the second year student.
Grade Rationale:
The Junior High Physical Education/Health program is one in which the
physical, mental, emotional and social aspects are integrated into various
cognitive and physical activities. The program focuses on gross and fine
motor movements that will improve coordination, strength, agility,
cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. Lead-up games and activities will
foster team concepts such as teamwork, communication skills, strategies and
cooperation in order to achieve goals; both individual and group. Through the
use of these skills, the student will be able to develop and maintain a
healthy lifestyle.
