The mission of Social Studies is to prepare young people for informed,
responsible citizenship now and in the future. This will be accomplished
through the study of economic, civic/political, social/cultural, historical,
and geographical perspectives.
The purpose of the seventh grade Social Studies program is to make the
students better citizens of their community, state, country, and world. This
course is designed to develop the student's Social Studies skills in World
Geography, History, World Government, and Economic systems. This course will
increase the student's knowledge and understanding of the people, events, and
social and political forces of history.
The eighth grade Social Studies program is designed to foster patriotism and
to prepare students to become responsible citizens. Students will develop
global awareness and an understanding of the United States' role in the
world. The students will develop the skills necessary to be able to
evaluate and use information. This course is the study of American history
starting with early American cultures and the Age of Discovery through the
American Civil War. This study includes the role of geography and cultural
diversity, as well as a basic overview of American government.
A native of Indiana, Mr. Logan spent the early years of his life on a small
farm. However, most of his growing up years were spent in south Georgia.
Mr. Logan graduated from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, GA. He
then attended Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon, GA in pursuit of a degree
in Education. While a student at BPC, Mr. Logan was very active in the
college’s music ensembles, singing in the choir, playing tuba in the band and
brass ensemble, ringing in the handbell choir, and playing electric bass in
the jazz band. He was also a senator in the college’s Student Government
Association and served as editor of the yearbook. Mr. Logan completed his
student teaching at Vidalia High School in Vidalia, GA. He graduated from
BPC with a B.S. in Broadfield Social Science Education. Mr. Logan relocated
to the state of Missouri in 2003, and accepted a position at Rich Hill
Elementary School in Rich Hill, MO, working with special needs children,
primarily in the area of Language Arts. In 2004, however, Mr. Logan secured
his current position at Carl Junction Junior High, returning to his passion
for teaching History. Mr. Logan holds a M.A. in Early American History from
Pittsburg State University (Pittsburg, KS); his thesis was titled, “John
Deere and the Abolitionist Movement in Illinois.”
Mr. Logan's wife is an accomplished concert pianist. She has served on the
music faculties of Cincinnati Bible College (Cincinnati, OH) and Ozark
Christian College (Joplin, MO), teaching piano courses and music history.
Mr. and Mrs. Logan are the proud parents of a beautiful daughter and are
members of College Heights Christian Church, also in Joplin, MO.
Mr. Logan serves as the CJJH yearbook adviser and as the CJHS coach for
National History Day. During the summer, he has taught the CJJH American
History Trip to the east coast twice and throughout the Midwest once. Mr.
Logan is a member of the State Historical Society of Missouri, the Indiana
Historical Society, the National Council for History Education, and was
employed throughout the summer of 2009 at the Baxter Springs Heritage Center
and Museum (Baxter Springs, KS) as a staff archivist. He was named Teacher of
the Year for the Carl Junction R-1 school district in 2010 and was
subsequently named as one of six finalists for Missouri Teacher of the Year in
2010. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, cooking, playing electric bass,
listening to gospel music, collecting farm toys, “talking politics,” and yardwork.
