I began teaching at CJJH in 2006, yet I hope to be here for a very long
time! It feels like home to me. We have a great group of teachers and
administration. I graduated from CJ myself in 1990. I wanted to teach just
like my junior high teacher Mr. Pitts did and be the best Junior High
science teacher that I could be. I really love it here! I am part of the
district's science curriculum team and I have worked with DESE in the past
with a science senior leaders pilot program and with grading MAP tests.
My husband and I have two kids, a son and a daughter. We have a
dog; though the pet situation changes at times. Three years ago was a
special year for me as my son was in seventh grade also. After all the cell
phone student issues students have had, I am very glad that I did not allow
him to have his at school. This year he is a sophmore and I have a whole new
slew of things to go through with him, so I understand as a parent what you
have ahead of you. My daughter will be in 4th grade with Mrs. Boren and I
may have met many of you while going to activities.
I will have two co-teaching classes this year! I am very much looking
forward to sharing the room with Mrs. Baird during 2nd and 3rd hour. I know
we will have as much fun this year as we did last year :)
Parents, my planning period will be 1st hour this year. I usually check my
emails during my planning period and after school. You may contact me during
this time, if needed. I want this year to be successful for both you and
your student.
As you will see this year, seventh grade is a time of ups and downs when your
child is struggling to fit in, find themselves and survive the tumultous
social scene that junior high feels like for them, as well as trying to
define who they are and what they know. Their brains are making new
connections everyday and through my teaching I hope that many of those
connections will strengthen their knowledge of science. I love learning and
teaching about science and I hope to share that enthusiasm and get students
interested in what they are learning.
I believe in giving the students a chance to succeed and until they show me
different - I believe that they can do ANYTHING.
Respect means A LOT to me and I will ask for that from the students. I am
enthusiastic about science and hope that the students will feel that
enthusiasm themselves and it will cause them to want to learn. I know that
some students just don't like the subject, yet I hope they will try to look
with new eyes at the world around them. It is truly interesting.
I can't wait to meet each of you in class.
A quote that I like:
"The important thing is not to stop questioning.
Curiosity has its own reason for existing.
One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates
the mysteries of eternity, of life,
of the marvelous structure of reality.
It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend
a little of this mystery every day."
Albert Einstein
I want each student to have the chance to grow and learn in a positive,
enriching environment. I want each student to succeed both individually and
in the group setting.
My mission is to help students become life long learners interested in the
world around them and to understand more about scientific studies.
Attempt; don't let the world pass you by. Excuses are a way of not facing
the world.
