Overcoming Obstacles

The kids and I started off the year studying handicaps, compassion, and perseverance.  We learned that a “handicap” can be short-term or long-term and could be anything from having a blister on your foot (OUCH!) to being paralyzed or having face-blindness. Never heard of “face-blindness?”  Ask your munchkin.  It’s pretty amazing!

We learned that we ALL have strengths as well as weaknesses.

In the pictures you will see us participating in a few activities to help us understand what it’s like to have various handicaps. We tried writing and drawing using our mouths and feet to see what it’s like not to have the use of our hands.  We went through an obstacle course with our shoes on the wrong feet and with our writing hand disabled.  We found out that some of the obstacles were REALLY hard with those “disabilities” but others were no problem.  It was a joy watching the kids overcome their “handicaps” and working together to complete the challenges!!!!
