What is the behavior management plan?

In order to create and maintain a positive learning environment
for our class, the children are expected to follow all classroom
and school rules. When rules are broken, strips are placed in
our behavior chart in the following manner:
1 strip = warning (We all make mistakes = no consequence.)
2 strips = lose 5 minutes of recess
3 strips = lose 10 minutes of recess
4 strips = lose 15 minutes of recess
5 strips = lose 20 minutes of recess
If 5 strips are pulled in one day, a "Think Sheet" will be sent
home explaining what happened that day and what your child should
do to avoid these problems in the future. The paper must be
signed by a parent or guardian and returned the following day.
This encourages the children to take responsibility for their
actions. All strips are removed from the chart at the end of the
day. Each day is a new opportunity to demonstrate proper
behavior.

Will my child have homework?

Math homework (Home Links) will usually be sent home Monday -
Thursday to help reinforce or enrich the mathematical skills we
are learning in class. Please check over the assignments and
provide assistance as needed. Some of the Home Links call for
the use of a Student Reference Book. We received new reference
books a few years ago, so our old books are available for
students to take home and use throughout the year. The books are
due back in May when we finish the program. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND
THAT THE OLD REFERENCE BOOK PAGES WILL VARY SLIGHTLY FROM THE
PAGES CALLED FOR ON THE HOME LINKS, BUT THE TABLE OF CONTENTS AND
INDEX WILL MAKE IT EASY TO USE. These short assignments should
be returned the following day. I hope this will help the
children develop a stronger sense of responsibility for
completing and returning assigned work in a timely manner.

I schedule ample time for the students to complete most
assignments in the other subjects. If your child does not finish
the work in class, it will be sent home to be completed. If a
lot of incomplete work is coming home, your child may not be
using his/her time wisely.

What are Take-Home / Homework Folders?

Every night your child will bring a folder home with them. You
will find an assignment sheet in the folder that will keep you
informed of the work that was completed in class and work that
needs to be completed at home. Usually, the only work that needs
to be completed at home will be the math homework. Please sign
and return the assignment sheet, homework, and folder each day.

When will graded papers and completed assignments be sent home?

A folder will be sent home on Mondays or Tuesdays which will
include your child's papers from the previous week. Feel free to
include any comments or questions that you may have. The folder
needs to be returned the day after it is sent home.

How is snack time handled in the classroom?

Due to food allergies and individual preferences, each student
will provide his or her own snack each day. If your child is
bringing birthday treats for the class at snack time, school
policy regulates that all food must be prepackaged (store bought)
or purchased from a bakery.
