Dear Parents,

We are finally finished with Grade Card assessments.  —ALL students!  We have made up for all the absences from the past 2 weeks.  Yippee!!!  This is me...Taking a moment to sigh and be happy with the results.  The grade cards will come home to you on Friday, April 1.

Monday through Thursday We worked with the words look, book, took, cookies, goose, tooth etc.  We are reading those words and watching for the two different sounds they make.  We will begin working with spelling sight words after break.  When reading to your student at home, please read with voices and excitement. It helps the kids be more fluent readers with their own reading books.  Have them listen for fluency when you read, too.  Ask about the different punctuation marks.  I just read, “N-O spells NO!”  What kind of punctuation mark is at the end of that sentence?  How did you know?  (answer:  exclamation mark because you said it loud/excited/mad/angry.)  These questions help the kids with their writing as well as with reading.

Thursday was St. Patrick’s Day.  Yikes!  Did we have a VISITOR!!!  Shady O’Dell, a leprechaun, left us a letter on our white board.  He was looking for his gold and asked us if we had seen it.  He thought he’d catch us on his next trip through town.  Boy did he!!  Later in the afternoon, we came back to our room to find that he had climbed in the window and left us a pile of gold coins (chocolates) and magic powder with instructions on how to prepare it.  He left a trail of glittery gold everywhere he stepped in our room.  What a MESS!  Thankfully, St. Patrick’s Day only comes once a year.

Today we wrote about that naughty leprechaun.  The sentences look great!  I can read MUCH more of each person’s paper than I could just a month ago.  We are getting so much better at stretching out the words and spelling what we hear.  Yeah!  I will put the papers out to be read in our hallway.  Kudos Kids!!!

Today is also our 3rd Quarter PBS celebration.  House of Bounce was here and we got to see a Clifford movie.  Fun, Fun, Fun!  I’m glad we are able to reward kids for good behavior!

Next week= SPRING BREAK!!!  PLEASE GET REST AND GET HEALTHY!!!!

When we return…

Turn off TV week.  Let’s get going and turn them off.  Play together.  Read together.  Walk outside together.  Ride bikes together.  Write with sidewalk chalk..  Clean out the closets together.  Make it count.  Enjoy it!

April 1 is not only the day for grade cards to come home, but also SPRING PICTURE DAY for our building!  We will have individual pictures AND a Group picture.  Wear your best and bring your smile Kids!!!  Kindergarten group picture happens only once.

That’s all I have.  Enjoy the spring break with your families.  If you are going somewhere (even on Range Line) be safe.  Have fun.  Cherish this time with your Kinder Kid!  One quarter to go, and he/she will be a 1st grader.  (sniff, sniff)  I mean it….love and hug and giggle a lot!!!
