Homework

WEEKLY READING LOGS & MATH FACTS:
Completing weekly reading logs and math facts is an essential part of your
student's grade. Typically students will receive their logs on Monday, which
are placed in their Homework Folder. Logs run Monday through Thursday, and
collected Friday morning. As the old saying goes..."The more you read; the
more you know!"

Students will need to read for at least 20 min. each night (20 points for the
weekly log - 5 points each night M-Th). When completing Reading Logs,
encourage your student to read books to complete their book report
requirements, reading material needed for homework assignments, magazine
articles, newspapers, etc. Students can read aloud or silently, just as long
as they are reading. In addition, students will need to practice their
math facts for at least 10 min. each night (20 points for the weekly log - 5
points each night M-Th). Students can use flashcards (boughten or homemade),
write out math facts, play math related games (Sorry, Yahtzee, Monopoly, War,
etc.), and visit our classroom website and play games from the Math Links.

Students should be completing both logs with an adult (parent, daycare
provider, grandparent, older family relative, etc.). Make sure the logs are
filled out correctly, initialed by whoever assisted the student, and returned
the next day. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you are checking your student's
homework folder every night for logs, assignments, and/or notes from me.
Communication is the key for a successful year! ;)

SPELLING:
Students usually receive Spelling lists on Monday, these words will be
studied during a 1 week period. Most usually a pre-test is held
on Monday afternoon. Those that do not pass the Monday Pre-Test with an "A"
are required to take the Final Test on the following Friday.

GENERAL HOMEWORK:
Depending on the daily routine, schedule, and activities your student may
have additional homework (should not be more than 50 minutes). Students are
given plenty of "work time" in class. If they use their time wisely, they
shouldn't have much homework, if any, except for Reading Logs & Math Facts.

Please check your student's homework folder each night for additional
homework assignments. Homework folders are required to be filled out
completely whether or not the student has homework. This way the parent
knows what took place at school that day. Students are given at least 5-10
minutes at the end of each day to fill our their Homework Folder. I also
encourage students to fill it out throughout the day when they have spare
time. Therefore, there should be no reason to see a blank Homework Folder -
Assigment Sheet when your student arrives home. Each night initial the
folder. However, students will not receive a "morning stamp" for a blank
Homework Folder - Assignment Sheet even if a parent has initialed it.
