DO YOU WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE AND HAVE HELP PAYING THE BILL?
Achieving A+ eligibility means that you may be eligible for paid tuition and
general fees toward your first associate degree at any public community
college or technical school in the state of Missouri (provided state funds
are appropriated by the legislature and annual funding is approved. The
money is available for student use within a 4-year period after high school
graduation.
The A+ Program is for everyone! You can:
* attend a 1- or 2-year community college or technical school and get
a degree that will prepare you for a high-wage, high-skill job in
over 150 career areas. Starting wages for these types of jobs
usually range from $9-$25/hour.
* get an Associate of Arts degree at a community college that will
allow you to transfer to a 4-year college as a junior. Most four-year
universities work with A+ students in the transfer and scholarship process.
* obtain incentive scholarships at participating four-year colleges.
Truman State University, Columbia College, Webster University, William
Woods University, SMSU--West Plains, MO Western, NW Missouri State, and
Lincoln University are a few who offer A+ competitive scholarships and/or
dual enrollment with area technical centers and community colleges. Contact
the university directly for details on how A+ eligibility can help.
TO QUALIFY, STUDENTS SIMPLY MEET EACH OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
* attend a designated A+ School for three consecutive years.
* keep a 4-year cumulative attendance record of 95% or better.
* keep a 4-year cumulative, non-weighted GPA of 2.5 or higher.
* log 50 hours of unpaid, academic tutoring. Tutor hours may be logged only
after the student has completed training and ONLY when prior arrangements
have been made and permission obtained from Mrs. Maslowsky,A+ Coordinator.
* maintain good citizenship and avoid the use of alcohol and/or drugs.
Referrals, tardies, in-school, and out-of-school suspensions may
have an impact on your eligibility.
* file the FAFSA early in the last semester of your senior year.
A+ is a state program which is federally funded. Money available to
students is dependent on state fund allocations which may change from year
to year.
POSTGRADUATE RESPONSIBILITIES:
If a student is a non-citizen, it is up to the post-secondary institution to
determine whether or not they are eligible for the incentives for the A+
program.
To retain A+ incentives in college, the student must attend college on a
full-time basis, maintain a college GPA of 2.5 or higher, and re-apply for
the FAFSA during subsequent semesters.
