English/vocabulary/spelling Mrs. Gillian

We have completed the pronoun chapter, with its nominative, objective and possessive cases. These concepts echoed those in the noun chapter, as pronouns can do anything that nouns can do. Take charge of your education right now if you are not yet completely understanding these concepts, and if you are in need of a small group help session. A help session on troubling concepts was available at 7:15 A.M. on 11/11 and 16. It was good to see so many of you there. The chapter test on pronouns was on Tuesday, 11/24. The class average was 91%. Good job!

As we anticipate progress reports after Thanksgiving, be sure that you have started the quarter out right, with all work due on time, and with sufficient study time for mastery of material. Be sure to bank bonus points when extra credit is available. (See below.)

As we will begin chapter 6 in vocabulary on Monday, the Chapter 6 spelling quiz will hit on Thursday, and the vocab test will occur on Friday.  We will also begin our exploration of spelling, leading toward a solid showing in the 1/22 spelling bee.

I enjoyed conferencing with each of my homeroom students' parents. Thank you for your contributions which provided our dinners during conferences. The food was yummy, and the dinners allowed precious staff family time. It was also nice to see all of you at cotillion. You looked beautiful and handsome! It was good to see you having so much fun together. Thank you for your excellent behavior.

BONUS: For up to five bonus points, choose one word from each vocabulary unit, 1-5 and write a little paragraph of several sentences about Friday night's dinner and dance, using the words that you choose. Highlight the words, and place a little number above each word, telling from which chapter the word comes. Type this information, including a heading, and hand it to me on Wednesday morning, 11/25, by 8 A.M. Note: all requirements must be fulfilled in order for me to accept this bonus. Do not give it to me before Wednesday. Do not give it to me if it is not typed, and if it does not have a heading. Do not give it to me if the words are not highlighted and numbered. Thank you for your full compliance.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Mrs. Gillian
