Week of April 23rd

Dear Parents,

The end of April brought the showers for May!

Language Arts:
We finished our last story and completed the workbook pages.
Handwriting is completed and I am assessing a handwriting page the kids did for me on writing all lowercase and uppercase letters properly.

We read short stories and practiced writing a summary sentence for the story.

We will now work on independent work study packets.  (review and practice of all taught skills)
Spelling words will be "No Excuse Spelling".  These are words that the kids should be able to spell and use correctly in their writing.

spelling words for this week..
have
they
are
with
was
what
were
said
some
does

We will be writing these words in a sentence for the test.  I will dictate the sentence.

Math:
We have spent lots of time on 'fact' families through 20.
These are the most difficult to remember....we learned some strategies to help us and made a "peek" book of the families.

Religion:
The parts of the Mass..Opening-Liturgy of the word-Liturgy of the Eucharist and closing.  We also learned what the Consecration is...........

May is a special month in which we honor Mary the Mother of Jesus.
Children are invited to bring in flowers to decorate our classroom Prayer Altar.  Bring to school a single flower picked out of the yard, a bouquet bought or made anytime during the remaining days of school.
We will be praying daily devotionals to Mary during May as well as saying the Angelus. We will  learn the Glorious Mysteries.

Maps:
We learned about our neighbors Canada and Mexico.
