Greetings everyone,
I hope everyone enjoyed a blessed Christmas. I'm sure your child will return to school refreshed and ready for more learning!
We will continue our work with fractions in math. We will pick up again with subtracting fractions and have a test on Jan. 14. After that we will begin multiplying and dividing fractions. I would like to stress again the importance of knowing multiplication facts. This skill is vital for success in fractions, decimals and ratios.
In science, the students will learn about weather. It is a short unit and the test will be Jan. 13. We will next move on to studying the oceans. The students will participate in the Great Ocean Rescue, an excellent program that involves problem-solving and reasoning skills.
While students continue to finish up their colony powerpoints, they will begin the JA program. Most of January will be spent learning about the free enterprise system and how to write checks and fill out deposit slips. At the end of January they will begin a biography on their living history partner. Most of this project will be done at home. I would appreciate any editing help you are able to give. Details for the biography will be posted on my webpage.
Enjoy what's left of the break!
