5th Grade Math
In Chapter 4: Number Theory and Fractions
, students will:
find the prime factorization of a number.
find the greatest common factor (GCF), least common multiple (LCM), and least common denominator (LCD).
rename fractions, including improper fractions, in simplest form.
find equivalent fractions.
compare and order fractions and mixed numbers.
In this chapter, students will develop their understanding of equivalence of fractions and their ability to compute with and solve everyday problems that involve fractions. This chapter extends students' understanding of number theory and emphasizes pattern recognition. Concrete models are used to help students understand certain procedures, such as finding equivalent fractions and renaming fractions that are greater than or equal to one. by mastering these procedures, students will be better prepared to understand the operations and procedures with fractions presented in later chapters.
