Late or Missing Assignments

If homework is late, parents will be notified by a
green homework slip that is sent home with the
student. The homework slip must be signed and
returned to school the next day. The student will
complete the late assignment during recess. If it
is not finished at that time, it must be completed
that evening and turned in the following morning.
Accumulation of three homework slips for missing
homework and signed tests, or five homework slips
for being unprepared for class will result in a
student consequence of staying after school for
half an hour.

If a student is absent, I will assign another
student to write down all assignments and gather
all the necessary materials. If you want those
materials to be sent home in some way, I will need
for you to contact the office before 11:00, so that
I can get the message at lunch. If I do not
receive any communication about the homework, it
will be on the students desk in my classroom.

Birthday Celebrations

In keeping with the requirements of our state-
mandated wellness plan and in order to cultivate a
more healthful environment for all students,
especially those with serious food allergies,
birthday treats will no longer be used to
celebrate birthdays. Instead, the birthday boy or
girl, if they chose, may be excused from wearing
their uniforms that day and dress up.

Field Trip Chaperones

There will be a space on all field trip permission
forms to indicate availability to chaperone. I will
contact the required number of chaperones
for the field trip.

Homework

Homework is usually due the next day after it is
assigned. All loose-leaf homework must have a
header which should include: name, subject, date,
and page/problems. Torn out notebook paper is
not acceptable. All homework must be completed in
black or blue erasable pen, except math homework,
which is always done in pencil. Whiteout is not
allowed. Homework should average no more than 45 -
60 minutes a night. Please contact me if this
amount is exceeded. This excludes project work. I
usually do not assign homework on Fridays.
Sometimes students may have to work on a
project on the weekend if they have not used good
time management.

Discipline

Discipline is covered by three general rules,
listed on page 24 of the school handbook, which
follow our Discipline With Purpose curriculum.
When a student fails to comply with the rules, the
student will receive a visual signal from the
teacher. If the behavior continues, the student
will receive a verbal warning. The third
consequence will be a blue slip. The blue slip
will be sent home for a parent to sign. It must be
returned the following day to school. If not,
another blue slip will be issued. Three blue slips
will result in a detention. If the behavior
continues to be an issue, I will contact the
student's parent. This will give us; the
teacher, student, and parent, an opportunity to
resolve the problem together.

Vacations/ Appointments

Please contact me as soon as possible to let me
know if your child is going to be absent due to a
doctor's appointment or vacation. It is helpful to
me to have advance notice when possible.
